Personal dreams, goals and aspirations are part of everyday human experience as is our desire for wellbeing and success. Why is it though that sometimes it is easy to fulfil our dreams and aspirations but at other times no matter how hard we try, nothing seems to be shifting for the better. Most people possess natural abilities to self direct their personal attributes, thoughts and behaviours in a way that supports their daily performance and wellbeing. Sometimes however, our natural self regulating abilities may be inhibited by negative automatic thoughts and self preservation responses, blocking us from achieving our goals.

When that happens, we may be concerned about the way we react, perhaps thinking we are going 'crazy' whilst in fact it is often our automatic self preservation mechanism that is creating problems for us, working overtime to protect us. Our automatic undesirable thoughts and reactions often stem from powerful emotional experiences in situations of past crisis, life transitions or trauma when we learnt to perceive our negative emotions and situations at that time as signs of danger. When this happens, our reactions to self perceived danger replay themselves automatically over and over again.

Perhaps we could explore an example of social anxiety where this sort of self preservation mechanism is evident. People who once experienced emotionally intensive negative feelings in a group situation, could feel so uncomfortable that they had to leave.  If their discomfort and negative emotions were powerful enough at that time, their self preservation instinct would be likely to associate these emotions and the situation (ie group of people) as the signs of danger.

The escape which was their initial reaction will be most likely interpreted as the correct response to this type of situation in the future. This is because it worked well during that first experience, saving the person from the perceived danger and ending his or her emotional discomfort From then on, this escape / avoidance pattern will automatically replay itself in group situations whenever strong fear is present.

Similar patterns of over vigilance by our automatic self preservation system can also be observed in relation to depression, insomnia, chronic pain and habits, such as smoking or overeating.

Deeply entrenched, automatic self preservation patterns are likely to continue, regardless how many times the person experiencing them tries to convince him or herself that there is no real danger. These patterns are likely to replay themselves over and over again unless addressed directly at our automatic level at which they operate.

At times all that may be required to get back on the track is just a little bit of support to regulate our over vigilant self defence systems and replace our unhelpful automatic reactions with ones that are more conductive to our wellbeing.

And this is where Hypno-Link can assist.

Hypno-Link provides a short term restorative therapy that includes specialist counselling and clinical hypnotherapy. Hypno-Link services support people to address and overcome wide range of challenges, and to improve their wellbeing.

Psychological Counselling and Clinical Hypnotherapy are also effective methods of addressing a wide variety of health conditions, including anxiety disorders, chronic health conditions and chronic pain.  Hypno-Link services however, cannot replace the medical treatment and advice. If you are suffering from serious health complaints and are in need of medical treatment, please consult with your doctor in the first instance. Referral from your doctor may also be required, if you are interested in clinical hypnotherapy to assist health problems, such as chronic pain or chronic condition.

Details about specific therapies provided by Hypno-Link are discussed below.

Clinical Hypnotherapy refers to a therapeutic service that utilises the natural state of hypnosis to assist people in addressing and overcoming their challenges. Clinical Hypnotherapy involves the application of evidence based knowledge and hypnosis techniques in conjunction with professional counselling, for the optimum benefit of the clients.

The term hypnosis refers to a state of relaxation characterised by a heightened focus of attention and increased responsiveness to suggestions. The state of deep relaxation with heightened focus of attention during hypnosis is similar to that, which is naturally experienced when daydreaming, watching a good film or reading a fascinating book. During hypnosis, clients continue to be aware what they are doing and what happens around them.

Psychological counselling refers to professional counselling service that incorporates a wide range of relaxation techniques, such as progressive muscle relaxation, visualisation, mindfulness, and controlled breathing along with a set of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy strategies. The latter includes behaviour modification tools, gradual exposure techniques and other cognitive behavioural strategies. Focused psychological counselling may also include skill training and practice in the areas of problem solving, communication and stress management.

Average duration of therapy for one specific issue is between 4 to 8 sessions. It is expected that after that time client will be equipped with sufficient resources and self management strategies to assist their own future achievements and problem resolutions. If you believe however, that additional therapy is required, this could be further reviewed with your therapist during the 8th session. Duration of sessions varies subject to specific situations but usually does not extend beyond 90 minutes per session.

Stop Smoking Program is an exception and runs for 2 sessions. The cost of the Hypno-Link Stop Smoking is a great value as it is comparable to the financial investment made by a moderate smoker to maintain his or her habit for three weeks. This very successful program runs over two three hourly sessions. It is designed to address not only smoking behaviour and cravings but also deep underlining triggers and subconscious distress patterns that influenced our decision to take up smoking in the first place. No concessional rates are available for this program All payments for Hypno-Link services are made prior to commencement of therapy.

Hypno-Link is registered in the National Register of Hypnotherapists of Australia (NRHA). This means that subject to your particular situation and your type of private health insurance cover, you may be able to receive a rebate from your health insurance to partially subsidise the cost of Hypno-Link services. Please contact your health insurance directly to verify if rebates would be offered in your particular situation.
